Why Dancing is good for you
The History of dancing can be traced back literally to the dawn on man. Dance played an important part of rituals and ceremonies observed by ordinary folk in their day to day living as a way of paying homage to their gods. This would take place especially in times of great stress, such as praying for a good harvest, before going to war or for warding off evil such as when afflicted by some form of illness for which they had no cure.
Dancing was also used as a way of passing on popular folk tales and stories down through the generations and they would wear a myriad of colourful dance costumes, the nature of which would depend on the nationality of the people and the nature of the story.
Fast forward to today; dancing has acquired much more of a therapeutic value. For a healthy lifestyle, people need to be active so dancing Ballroom or Latin American, for example, provides a great alternative to exercising in the local gym or jogging to lose weight.
From a social aspect, going out dancing is an ideal way of getting to meet people and make new friends. Dressed in the right dancewear clothes and knowing how to dance properly can greatly enhance your confidence and social skills – for example, you see certain someone you want to get to know that bit more surrounded by their friends. All you have to do to get them on their own is ask them if they would like to dance.
Showing confidence and poise on the dance floor along with the close proximity of contact that comes with dancing Ballroom also eliminates the need for much talking.
Whereas dancing featured heavily in a child’s education in many ancient cultures it has become sidelined over recent years in favour of other more serious topics. Yet! Music and dancing classes in a controlled environment which schools offer can provide an ideal mix of exercise and having fun.
For the more enthusiastic pupils, they can also experiment with different types of kids’ dancewear and costumes taking part in theatrical productions which serves to further enhance and remove some of the boredom in their education.
With such a wide array of different dances such as the Waltz, Quickstep, Tango, Foxtrot, Rumba, Jive, Salsa, Cha Cha, Samba, etc there are dances to suit all moods and tastes.
